The Argentine Viticulture Corporation (COVIAR) is a public-private organization dedicated to managing and coordinating initiatives to promote the wine industry in Argentina. A key element of its mission is to promote sustainability throughout the entire wine production chain, from vineyards to wineries.

As part of the Strategic Winegrowing Plan 2030 (PEVI 2030), COVIAR developed the “Guide to Sustainability in Argentine Viticulture”. This guide serves as a tool for organizations of various sizes in the sector to self-evaluate and improve their sustainable practices. It encompasses economic, environmental, and social dimensions, aligning with international standards and the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

To further encourage sustainable practices, COVIAR introduced the “Sustainable Argentina” certification label. This label distinguishes wine industry products that comply with the guidelines established in the sustainability guide. The certification process is conducted by recognized certification bodies, including IRAM, Bureau Veritas, among others. Once certified, companies are authorized to display the “Sustainable Argentina” label on their products, signaling their commitment to sustainable production methods.

This initiative not only enhances the quality and competitiveness of Argentine wine products but also aligns with global market trends that increasingly value sustainability. By implementing these measures, COVIAR aims to foster a more sustainable and diverse winegrowing sector in Argentina.
